Hybrid Conference, Berlin (Germany), 30-31 May 2022

We are embarking on the frequently invoked “decade of modernisation,” which will be accompanied by massive investment and expenditure needs. In the wake of the Corona pandemic, however, public debt in Germany and Europe has grown to record levels. The question of war and peace in Europe has also returned in full force. The economic and social consequences will be immense. The European and global economy is facing new uncertainties.

Throughout the Day of Progressive Economy 2022, our speakers will address the following questions:

How do we cope with the pressure to modernise in times of crisis?
How do we create a fair distribution of costs and benefits in the transformation?
What does a new economic policy that meets the immense challenges look like?
How can we secure prosperity and social cohesion?

Among our speakers: Ann Pettifor, Director of Policy Research in Macroeconomics (PRIME), author and political economist, Antti Rinne, Deputy Speaker of the Finnish Parliament (SDP), former Prime Minister of Finland, Martin Sandbu, European Economics Commentator at the Financial Times, Martin Schulz, Chairman of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, Lars Klingbeil, Chairman of the SPD, Margarida Marques, Member of the European Parliament and Deputy Chair of the Budget Committee, Jakob von Weizsäcker, Minister of Finance of the German State of Saarland, Laszlo Andor, Secretary General of the Foundation for European Progressive Studies, Carsten Schneider, Minister of State to the Federal Chancellor and Federal Government Commissioner for East Germany

The Day of Progressive economy is a two-day hybrid congress, organised by the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES), in partnership with FEPS, the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB) and the Macroeconomic Policy Institute (IMK).
