Unequal Europe is a long-term research project which analyses regional inequalities in several EU countries. On 4 October, Björn Hacker, Professor of European Economic Policy at HTW Berlin, presented the Policy Study on the European overview "Unequal Europe - Tackling Regional Disparities in the EU".
Nicolas Schmit, European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights, delivered a keynote speech. Maria Joao Rodrigues, FEPS President; Constanze Krehl, Member of the European Parliament; Cristina Rat, author of the Romanian study; Maija Mattila, author of the Finnish study and Philipp Fink, Director FES Nordic Office, also took the floor and participated in the debate.
The report has been produced as part of a European collaboration with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and the Foundation for European Progressive Studies at the European level. The project has previously produced a similar analysis in Germany, Finland, Italy, Romania, and Sweden. Analyses are underway in Estonia. The indicators have been selected in collaboration with researchers from the Institut für Landes- und Stadtentwicklungsforschung.
