[Models for (s)electing a pan-European leading candidate]
A study of Ania SKRZYPEK, FEPS Policy Advisor | 24 June '10
This study presents a research on possible mechanisms of nominating, selecting and deciding on who and how could become so called “top candidate” for the next European elections. It provides simplified models, analysing eventual impacts of one or another method, without recommending any strategy in particular. This study should be seen as a contribution to the exploration on the future of the participative democracy, evolution and perspectives for the political party system and the understanding of what citizenship means on the EU level.
[Social Democracy for the Next Generation: Points for the debate]
Changes in society become introductory premises to most groundbreaking, ideological debates. Yet society steadily evolves. Each generation is replaced by the next, which, in turn, takes not only its place within the adult world, but also gains influence and shapes reality. Their specific approach, formed by history on one side and by the demands of contemporary challenges on the other, is what makes the times they live in special and unique.
Naturally, the debate on the renewal of the European social democracy incorporates such elaborations on how society has changed. This project uses several methodological approaches ranging from sociology to anthropology and everything in betweenin order to assess these transformations.
