T</span><span lang="EN-US">his time, t</span><span lang="EN-US">he session is&nbsp; devoted to the subject&nbsp;of “A progressive socio-economic paradigm for Europe”, on which invited scientists, academics and experts from the member foundations will reflect both through their written contributions, and also through an extensive, and undoubtedly exciting debate in Brussels. The session, which will be presided over by the Focus Group’s Chair Dr Alfred Gusenbauer, former Chancellor of Austria, and which will be held with the support of Renner Institut, will be devoted to issues of internationalism, international solidarity and global social justice. Participants – experts from the worlds of academia, national thinks tanks and foundations, as well as trade unions and politics, will shake and shape this very vital debate through their written contributions, and through presentations and discussion at the meeting itself. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p class="bodytext"><span lang="EN-US"></span>Thanks to the hospitality of Renner Institute, the group will meet in Vienna to review and discuss its research papers, which will be published at the end of the year and which are currently being elaborated upon within three working groups: Employment and Welfare; European Identity and public sphere; Europe in the world. Furthermore, the Network’s members will take time to reflect on the future developments of the network, whose work in this regard will be facilitated by an expert trainer Michael Holzhauser. <p class="bodytext">This seminar aims to bring together experts and other key stakeholders, in advance of preparations for Budget 2011, in order to discuss the role of an investment strategy in stimulating economic recovery and generating sustainable job-rich growth. The aim of this event is to generate debate on current economic policy, drawing on wider experience across the EU on the role of alternative strategies in responding to the economic and fiscal crises.&nbsp; </p>
<p class="bodytext">The event will be chaired by Paul Sweeney (Chair, TASC Economists’ Network) and speakers include Professor Ray Kinsella (Smurfit Business School, UCD), Michael Burke (independent economic consultant, London) and Sinéad Pentony (Head of Policy, TASC).</p>
