Zimbabwe – Test Case for SADC

In accordance with the power sharing agreement that was forced on Zimbabwean parties by the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in 2008, elections are to be held this year.  President Mugabe set the election date for the July 31st 2013, against the wishes of the opposition parties and SADC. The country remains under the full control of Mugabe and his party ZANU-PF, because the necessary reforms in the security sector and media have not been carried out.  Under these circumstances the upcoming elections will not be free and fair and they will not solve the Zimbabwean crisis.
