Seminar: The Next Social Europe

Copenhagen, Denmark

"The Next Social Europe" is the title of the seminar that FEPS together with its partners CEVEA and the Renner Institut will be holding in Copenhagen on 18th - 19th October 2015. The event will take place in the symbolically chosen venue of the LO - Danish trade unions and in itself will mark a transition between the more theoretical conversation about the values underpinning welfare state towards a new phase focused on the formulation of political proposals. As such it comes timely, while the issue of social rights has been raised by the President of the European Commission and is announced to be one of the core topics within the EC workplan 2016.

The agenda of the seminar envisages 4 panels, which will see the inputs from high level speakers bringing together diverse expertise - that extends from academic evaluation (of the FEPS Next Left, FEPS - FAFO - SAMAK Nordic Model assessment, studies on the changing nature of welfare state) to political experience (of the EU Lisbon Strategy and activation paradigm, of the PES New Social Europe Agenda) and collective action (of political parties and trade unions). Jointly the experts and participants will try to answer the query: what should be the modern vision of progressive Social Europe, so that it can deliver again in terms of improvement of living and working conditions for all?
