The new chair of the Belgian francophone Socialist Party (PS) embodies the revival of French-speaking Belgian socialism. Proud of his left-wing heritage, he claims a clear stance as well as new responsibilities for his party and its allies within the European Union. He believes the upcoming European elections offer voters an opportunity to make a break with the neoliberal austerity policies imposed on them by the failure of financial capitalism.
