Passing on the torch: The legacy of the Beijing Platform for Action and new, grassroots feminist movements

Building on the political momentum of the 20th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action, the Foundation for European Progressives Studies (FEPS) launched an initiative to bring in the political debate on gender equality the claims of young, grassroots feminist movements. To mark the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment on 27 September 2015, we asked for self-recorded video testimonies from current grassroots feminist movements.

What would be your demands to global leaders?

Here are some of the courageous candidates who made their voices heard.

The experiences gained from this video initiative are summarised in the policy brief “An occasion for (r)evolution: 20th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for action”.

The initiative is followed by a seminar under the same title on Tuesday, 20 October 2015 bringing together politicians, civil society representatives and young feminists to discuss the lessons learnt from the Beijing process and its possible ways forward.
